I just received the following email. This is a classic example of what NOT to send to a business owner. It gave me a good laugh. If you are going to send unsolicited emails at least make them read well and use proper grammar. This is just pure and utter crap. I wonder if they actually get responses to this?!?! Zero research, didn't even complete their crap template - they left out the (Client). Unreal. Must just spam any email address they can find. If they are doing it there must be some people buying into the crap they are offering. Moral of the story: put some effort into all your marketing or it goes into the trash right away.

    Here it is:

    Hi,

    Hope you are well.

I am xxxxx, Web Development Manager. I was surfing through site from your domain and came across yours URL: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Have been observing various changes in trends in the Industry and the types of sites other players in your domain are using.

The field has grown since you last updated your website as per available records in Domain tools. There are a lot more advanced and user friendly websites

    Which appeal to the consumer?

A website determines the brand of a firm in the online world.

Do let me know if you are willing to discuss a possible redesigning/redevelopment of your (Client) website and I will be happy to explain in greater details.

Let me know if you would like further information by telephone or email. I'll be pleased to advise you of the options available and give you a no obligation quote including a complimentary website review.

Please let me have your name and telephone number so that I can contact you directly.

    Best Regards
    xxxxxxxxxx
    Development Manager

That is actually a pretty darn decent spam message there IMO.. the intelligence provided in poor English grammar makes the reader think they are going to get a bargain by outsourcing to a 3rd world country. If you are easily offended and let your emotions run your business.. guess what?-- you are NOT the target market for a spammer and the sooner they weed people like you out the easier their job becomes.

It's not emotional. It's professionalism. If I received an email like that, it would go immediately to the trash folder. I have zero against the person sending the email personally, but how can I trust someone to work well when I cannot even trust them to communicate well?

There's no real "intelligence" provided. Just a few general statements that are virtually always true in such a fast-paced industry.

People who take their companies seriously will not end up being the target market for such an email.

I approach business owners in person, either the ones that have a crappy website, or the ones that need one altogether. Way higher conversion rate from people to clients.

This is definitely not an unusual occurrence for myself - I get at least 5 emails a day (in each of my "active" email accounts) of so-called web development and S.E.O gurus wanting to take my money. No offense to any Indian's or Pakistani's in this forum, but I find that most of these spammers tend to originate from this part of the world - I admire the Indians for their hard work (and their cricket :)), and their expertise on web development and S.E.O, but for anyone that spams emails like this, they will never land any clients or remotely engage me in some sort of business relationship.

I either do S.E.O or web development by myself, or as part of the company I work with. I've been practicing web development and S.E.O since late 2007, so I do not need these spammer's services; however, for my BH sites, I am more than happy to purchase legit services from here - so as long as I'm not bombarded with a PM out of the blue.

I get several emails like this everyday. Its a beautiful example of finely perfected copyrighting skills and the English language.

Hm I remember that I read a post here on BHW (somewhere) about this "method" and it was actually converting, but I think he was targeting really old designed websites.

LOL! Maybe that was from a VA and the VA is not fluent in English. :D How was he or she promoted to a "Development Manager?" Haha! Yes, it looks like spam.

I get these daily.. The joys of running a web design / online marketing biz.

I once had a persistant SEO guy from India who was emailing me daily. I retaliated by clogging up his inbox with 10mb+ bitmap files with large expletives written on them.

He actually CALLED me then, from India, to abuse me - haha. Trolled?
