What means a lot?

Hi all! Hope I'll found the right answers here. How do you think, what means a lot - backlinks or traffic to the site? For example, I have a blog and I can get about 50 quality backlinks for it, but that backlinks doesn't give me a traffic; OR I can get 1-2-3 quality backlinks that give me a lot of page visits. So what would be more significant for the website position in Google, backlinks or traffic?

I’d say get the quality backlinks to keep a higher reputation and for the traffic as well, after all, isn’t traffic the ultimate goal of SEO?

Not sure your thinking is clear here;

If the 50 links are quality, then they'll help ranking which will in time help with traffic.
How do you know these other 1,2 or 3 links will bring instant traffic?

If you're wanting to rank it's backlinks you need. Traffic is what brings conversions/clicks/sales.

Of course, but we can focus on traffic first of all or focus on backlinks at first

Yes, this is what I want to hear

So as I see, if I want to rank then I should build the strong backlink profile for the blog - even if I don't get an instant and huge traffic from that links, it helps me in ranking. But if those links helps me in ranking and I can rank on TOP-10 for my keywords, then I get a traffic. Am I right?
