What Makes a Hosting Provider Truly Reliable?

I’ve been comparing hosting providers lately, and uptime isn’t the only thing that matters.
Support, server location, and network stability can make a big difference too.
Which hosting provider has impressed you most recently, and why?

I usually prioritize stability, speed, and responsive customer support when choosing a hosting provider. I only use hosting providers that offer fast and reliable online support whenever issues come up.

I'd go only with customer support. Because all in all, unless you need something specific (like a host that ignores dmca claims), almost all of then are like every other.

For me customer support then uptime then the rest. Over the years I've have been using a lot of various hosting providers, but ultimatvely settled on hetzner and ovh.

Hetzner for me is absolutely no1. Once on one of my dedicated machines Nvme drives died, it was like saturday or sunday at 2 AM, I've sent a customer support ticket to replace the drives.
Less than 5 minutes I kid you not, some techinican dude answered and changed my drive so in total from me sending the ticket to fully operational Dedicated machine 15 minutes passed.
Absolutely great support, helped me out many times. Their network is also stable.

As for OVH i mostly buy their Kimsufi (cheaper variant) dedicated machines. They run okay and are much cheaper than usual but support is less responsive.

There's the metal part - aka technical, what kind of output you're able to get, what options for upgrades and additional services there are - technical performance.

And then there's the "human" part - which starts with sales and contracting, and continues with support and being able to address various requirements - the people behind the hosting company.

If you find two companies that will offer you the similar metal part under comparable conditions, the human part is what will make the difference.

So for me the deal breaker when it comes to reliability and long term value is the people and also the business and contractual conditions. Besides performance and price, I'd look into the support, references, and contractual obligations - as you don't want to get locked into a long term, auto-renewed contract with a lot of small print.

The more established hosts with their own infrastructure, that are able deliver a complex, multi-server infrastructure setup may be able to offer comparable offering and performance, but it's the human and business part that makes the difference..

And contrary to the fact that you can find countless options for hosting if you search in the internet, there's not all that many hosts that would be able to act as a one stop shop for infrastructure, in case your requirements will grow, such as easily scalable servers, flat usage priced CDN, cloud options, now also GPU's etc.

Going back through all the projects I've been a part of since 2005, when it comes to complex server and infrastructure setup, I can first-hand recommend MojoHost.

One of the best tests is asking the provider for its recovery process before buying: where backups are stored, how often restores are tested, and what happens if the primary region becomes unavailable.
