What makes a good keyword good?

Let's say I have a three word keyword, which could probably be considered long tail, since it has quite a few variations to it. The keyword is exactly mentioned around 6,410 in google search, it has a global monthly search volume of 49,500 and a local volume of 8,100, these are exact volumes, not broad.

Would you say that's a pretty decent keyword regarding those figures?

Oh if only you knew the secret magic formula...

But seriously I am not an expert but if you believe you have found something try giving it a shot, put up a page and try ranking for it.

Some questions you could try answering for yourself are

Is there already advertiser competion (IE are there other folks making money for the keyword)

What are the other sites that are ranking for the keyword?

What's the target demographic?

If you haven't put a page up yet to try grabbing some of that traffic, why haven't you? What are you waiting on?

Simple things : Low/Medium competition, Decent CPC 1$+, Good search amount << 1000 local exact min. Other than that good amount of advertisers but that doesnt quite matter if you sell affiliate products.

Always before getting into a niche I always check the competition....download SEOQuake it is a addon for Firefox and an extension for Google Chrome and it will tell you everything you need to know when you go to a competitors website. If you find a good keyword (the one you are talking about is a good one if the competition is low), then all you can do is try. Hope this helps! If you have any other questions feel free to PM me!

There are many ways to look for a good kw which means a keyword that easy to rank on the first page of Google or even rank on top 3 or #1. Many expertize in SEO referring newbie to look at the first 10 sites on first page of Google. Forget about numbers of intitle, alltitle, "keyword", keyword when search in google bar. Just look at 10 sites of PR, age, Title, Description, keyword in domain, SEMOZ inbound back links.


I recommended a good kw may have: at least 3 pr0 sites and max pr4 all 10 sites, age = not really matter, max 3 exact titles and descriptions in 10 sites, max 2 sites exact keyword in domain, at least 3 sites 10 BLs below. You can download SEOquake to see manually on Google search page.

These keywords are not really easy to find but not impossible and also it usually has low exact Local search term there you need to consider depending on your pockets money and time to chase small hanging fruits or big lots of fruits but high SEO competition. One more point, if you used the site for adsense remember to look at least medium Advertiser competition.
