What made you realize your SEO strategy was wrong?

Was there a specific ranking drop, traffic pattern, or Search Console data that made you change your approach? Curious what actually made people rethink their SEO strategy.
In my case it was when every thing appeared to be okay on impressions but clicks and rankings were constantly going down. this is when i stopped wondering about updates and begins looking at the pages themselves.

for me it was seeing traffic stay flat even though i was consistently publishing and building links Looking deeper into search console showed that the pages weren’t matching search intent as well as i thought so i shifted the focus toward improving existing content instead of just producing more

Yes, a significant drop in rankings and organic traffic was the main indicator. Reviewing Search Console data helped identify where the strategy needed improvement.

traffic drop rankings for some important pages stayed the same. search console showed impressions were falling and the queries bringing traffic changed. that made look at search intent and content quality instead of just chasing more backlinks

Frankly it does not happens over night to me. What i realized was that pages started receiving impressions but not clicks on key words that were giving me decent rankings earlier that became the something’s not right realisation for me.

it happened when i realized i was receiving impressions but not clicks at all. initially i thought i had to simply create more content.but after checking search console i disscovered many pages that were ranking for keyword searches that did not make any sense.once i realized how important it is to consider intent, content quality nd internal linking rather than keyword searches alone everything fell into place.

for me, it was when rankings looked stable but search console showed impressions and clicks steadily dropping that made me realize i was focusing too much on rankings and not enough on search intent content quality and whether the pages were actually satisfying users
Yes, rankings can remain stagnant even though the quality of traffic is deteriorating, particularly in cases when there are changes to SERPs and/or intent. I would look at all three metrics together rather than use ranking as the KPI,
