I want to start ranking some websites and I was wondering what good free/trial tools are there that could help me doing the kw research.
Thanks

Market Samurai. You can check their official website for the trial version.

Google tool is good & free. But you may also give a try to other premium keyword research tools which comes with a trial .

Keyword planner + brainstorming further to find the nuggets.

Market Samurai to check the competition quickly (their onpage, number of links and referring domains, PR etc), it just makes it quicker. But for research is not really good because it just pulls the results from keyword planner anyway.

I use my brain, semrush, market samurai, google trends and adwords kw planner.

longtail pro..nice clean design. I tried market samurai, but didn't like lag it would give me when searching..longtail is way faster

Market Samurai i have tried the trial, but it appears to be very slow and some data is collected from Bing (unless you want to rank in Bing)

Keyword planner, Market Samurai, a custom made tool.... but the end result is always based on the last step - manual checks - that gives me the best idea of what I'm up against and if it's worth going after.

I use a seotools in excel, brilliant when u can learn the basics. But before running my keywords through it I use market samurai

I use a custom made app that integrates and collects data from various different free online tools.

Mostly Keyword Planner and the occasional use of long tail pro.

Keyword planner and keyword revealer nice free tools :)

I use my brain, semrush, market samurai, google trends and adwords kw planner.

Weird. I never used that first one. Where can I buy that?

@OP, most people saying Keyword Planner alone obviously aren't analyzing SEO competition.

I use GAWKT and Google Trends, also my head. The best weapon you have is the one between your ears. :D

5 years later.. and I'm still using micro niche finder. :D Still gets the job done for me though.
