I mean a blog where I won't spend money on backlinks and where I intend to rank content naturally and completely white hat.

I've never done an amazon affiliate blog before so I'm looking for some advice here.

I'm using semrush. So what keyword difficulty should I aim for?

You should aim for easy 0 to 14. Question keywords or long tail 5+ words keywords. Go to Google and check intitle and see how many results show. Ideally none but 1-2 is fine. If you see like 7-8 forget about that niche and switch niche.

It's more than KD on any platform Semrush/Ahrefs or any other.
Metrics are not perfect always.

Ideally choose something below 40 and the check the serps competition.

Great, that's all I needed to know.

By the way, do I just write informational articles until I apply with Amazon?

Isn't that too hard without backlinks?

Indeed I didn't take that into consideration.

But still ranking in top 10 without backlinks is a uphill task.

Try keywords with low search volume/traffic.
Like KD < 10 search volume < 600

For affiliate you can find low comp keywords with product name phrases check them.

Yes in the beginning. Later maintain a 80:20 ratio.

I've heard that one before. But why though? What stops me from doing 100% review posts?
I don't expect to have recurring visitors reading my blog every day if that's the issue.

Or does google penalize websites with too many affiliate link pages?

Yes , it can identify transactional, commercial posts and will do an algo penalty if too many. That's may2022 google core update.

So it a lot harder to do amazon affiliate marketing? Like 80% harder? Lol.

Any affiliate marketing with search traffic is harder. Amazon is actually easier due to higher conversion rate. People trust Amazon more.

The Keyword gravity tool part of keyword engineer is working for amazon keyword evaluation, you might check the beta here:

Yeah, go with Low KD. But firstly define the niche where you want to jump in. Then do a research on Amazon, what products have high sales rank to include them in your articles.
