Firstly Merry Christmas guys. Long time Lurker.

I'm just wondering has youtube changed it's algorithm decided what gets featured or shown around more? I know previously youtube changed it's algorithm for most minutes watched which spawned the popularity of so many video makers like leafyishere or Pyrocinical.
As a very small Youtuber with 5k subscribers and scraping 250-500 views per video.

Does anyone know any blackhat suggestions I could follow with the newer algorithm?
I know everyone here is more behind the scenes money making but I am a filmkaker/content creator and it's the one thing I actually love doing. Just can damage my spirit and attitude when you put hard work into pieces just to get ignored by the mass content uploaded daily.

I have 25,000 followers on instagram I obtained over a 6 month period using interagress to help develop my audience but migrating from one social network to the other is somewhat difficult.
120 followers on twitter. Ooach

now it depends on engagement . more engagement u get on top of search also suggested ...

One of the most popular Youtubers, PewDiePie, was complaining that his view rate has dropped sharply. The change you are talking about is quite old, but there have been more recent changes. I'm not sure what those changes are exactly, but YT is actually sending more traffic to some of the smaller channels, so you may even benefit if you are providing good content.

All that changed is that proper SEO is important for BOTH small AND big channels now. All these big channels used to be able to post a video titled "OMG HOLY YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS" and get views. Now, big channels need to use proper SEO because YouTube has changed the way videos get recommended or suggested.

With all this said, this isn't really an algorithm change. The algorithm has been the same since 2013. People are losing views due to their content being boring and their lack of proper SEO. They're blaming their loses on YouTube because that's the easiest thing for people to blame.

PS: Getting more engagement (likes, social shares, etc.) won't help your video now more than it did a year ago. It's all about proper SEO.

5k subs and 250-500 views sounds really poor man. People won't go onto your channel and expect anything decent with such a bad ratio.

Did you gained those subs organically? With the recent youtube update if the subscribers havent clicked on the bell icon they wont be notified and if you are uploading videos occasionally then you will get dropped down.

It's based on retention time, and "consistently repeat viewers". In other words, the more people that watch every video you produce the higher your search as well. So if you have 3 videos with no return viewers between them youtube will rank your videos less, if it's a series and you have a high percentage of shared viewers your rankings go up. Youtube wants to make their site like a "television" station. So they reward channels able to build long term engagement that gets viewers back to the site in anticipation.

I think we should work for unique things, which on no anybody doing work. As a SEO expert search keywords for blogs ...

Take example of a Orange farm which is Youtube "Our Boss'', and take example all the oranges "Content" and the Content Creators "The orange gatherer/plucker".At the beginning of the farm opening every fruit was gathered at a great quality because of legit youtubers like Pewdiepie smosh and nigahiga Passionate,Original,Dedicated,Hardworking. When the farm decided to expand by imposing ads on it, It attracted people who are the lazy and most of them apply a job at the farm because it was quick buck by simply mixing bad oranges and good oranges together. As years passed by,The pioneers which are Pewdiepie and etc pluckers get promoted to supervisors and managers "People who are making Big Bucks on Youtube'' started realising the farm profits are going down and been receiving alot of complains from consumers.Their Boss looked into the issue to find out that the lazy people''People who are in it to make a quick buck'' are mixing bad oranges and good oranges together. The Boss decides to change the working system"Alghorithm''.

Good oranges : Content that is valueble
Bad Oranges : Useless Content that doesnt matter like those cheat games survey link videos and etc.(U get what i mean)

Is all about how many minutes people are watching your video and if they see all the video or just a part.

For example I made yesterday one video of 41 seconds and guess what's the average watching time? You guessed right - 41 seconds.

I have 37k views on this video x 41 seconds =1517000

I just promoted my video to my 18k instagram/ 4 k facebook.

I also have just 1182 subscribers

And how many views/clicks did you get with this 41 second video? (I've stopped with short videos because I made nothing even If I had 100k+ views. My impression was that YouTube doesn't place pre-, mid- and post-roll ads to short videos (the probability is much lower instead of longer videos)) and that's why I focus on video with a length of 15min+

Just my personal opinion
