White Hat SEO is largely a myth, in my opinion.
All SEO is essentially figuring out ways to game the system so that Google can favor your website above others' websites.
Whether you do this through advanced internal linking strategies, silo page structures, keyword density, etc., your goal is to game the system.
In my opinion, White Hat SEO begins and ends the moment you start learning about SEO.
Most people won't agree with me, however, and that's fine.
But, I equate those die-hard White Hat SEO types to people in the following scenario:
There's a popular online forum where people record strippers at strip clubs, let's call it amazingstrippersensationsabcxyz.com.
You have people who knowingly take pictures of and record videos of the strippers and post it to the forums, and of course there are also the people who look at the images and videos.
Here's the catch...
In order to see any of the content, you have to be logged in and be an active member of the community.
One of these members has an account, they download the images, watch all the videos, and have been doing it for a while, however, they want to take things a step further...
This person will then visit one of the strip clubs and show a stripper a video clip of him / her that was posted on amazingstrippersensationsabcxyz.com.
They do this so that they can receive special favors from the stripper, which most likely won't happen, because this person, in all their white-knight glory, missed one very important detail...
They, too, are in the same arena with the people they shun. They're all doing the same thing and have the same objectives, which is to enjoy the benefits of that online forum.
^ This is your White Hat SEO person. They think they're better than the Black Hat SEO person, but what they fail to realize, is that they're playing the same game of Search Engine OPTIMIZATION.
There is no Black Hat. There is no White Hat. There is only SEO.
