Search engine is a tool for people to use when they want to research on certain information. Remember when your mum brought you a pc because they wanted you to use it to research on the internet for your highschool project? That was the original purpose of Google. If IMs are going to spam Google and all the important information is changed into articles that are not well written and only aimed to sell something. You get what I mean.

Building links naturally is the best white hat technique. There is no right and wrong here, and both sides work, but imo white hat is more secure and last longer that black hat. But on the other hand, you get faster authority using black hat techniques, so you earn money faster.

White hat SEO is when you're cool and everybody likes you. Black hat is when you're not COOL so you have to pay for the backlinks and traffic

I don't think that it's just Google that define what Black Hat SEO is; some people are keen to absolve themselves of responsibility for tactics that are pure black - like keyword stuffing to the point where articles are unreadable, or buying comments that are pure and simple spam. It's all very well and good to say that "White Hat" SEO users are patting themselves on the back for being so ethical, but I don't buy that for a second. They just want their sites to keep the traffic that they get through high PR.

there are a lot of arguments on what is white hat and not. really doing most hired seo can be called non-white hat. white hat seo is simply a safer way of building links and serps for search engine placement. the better the site and the more solid the links typically results in higher place website and that in turn will bring more people to the site.

White Hat SEO, in my opinion, is a combination of manual link posting and on-site SEO.

Blog posts could also fall under grey hat if content is not unique or too many blog comment made too quickly.

White hat SEO:
Legal, like adding content to your website, changing your META etc.

Black hat SEO:
Illegal way, Buying links, spamming websites with your link etc.

In my opinion there is no such thing as white hat SEO.

As soon as you build a link of any type - you violate webmaster guidelines and as such, are blackhat.

I suppose the only way white hat SEO could exist, is if you ignored SEO entirely. Thats pretty white hat right there!

lets be very honest here. Whitehat does not exists. Even if you purely want to sell a "real" product, say bikes and bike accessories. You are doing all "honest" SEO by yourself. Like writing a very good article, and on page SEO. Then you do manual submission. You have got zero chance of any pagerank juice because all your competitors are doing huge back linking, facebook campaigns, and by the time you finish your article submission to ezine with one miserable anchor texted backlink "biker" to your home page, your competition would have already crushed you with their net cast wide and high page ranks. All these while you took a year writing articles, and rank from position 299 to 199, then go bust with your biz.

Thats white hat.
