What is up with NYC?

I really do not get what is so special about NYC, that someone is willing to spend $100,000,000 on an apartment there. For a few million above 1/3 the price of that, you can get a huge mansion in Palm Beach,Florida with much nicer weather with beach across the street.

Even on the low end its way overpriced compared to other cities, A few months ago I was comparing the price of an apartment in NYC and some cities around Tampa, and if I wanted fios in NYC, the apartments start at $2500 and is only around 450 square feet. Yet I can get an apartment in Florida for $600,with fios,and at least 500 square feet.

It's just location and where majority of the people want to live.

Houses are cheap as shit in somewhere like Colorado or Nevada but nobody really wants to live there now do they? :P
 
But at least in many cities in florida there is alot to do, its not like in the middle of no where such as colorado,nevada or montana.

Yeah, but there's not much seasonal variation in Florida.

Many people are just more drawn to the city life or like to have the seasons change instead of having it just hot year-round.

Even if there's a lot of people that prefer Florida over the city, there's many, many more people that are more interested in living in the city than in somewhere like Florida. Even if Florida's not in the middle of nowhere, the general preference is clear apparently according to real estate costs.
 
This is Tampa, and its in Florida.

By "city", I meant "New York City" specifically.

Every place is different, just gotta accept that some people are more attracted to certain places than others :P
 
NYC offers 24 hour action, business and/or entertainment, you get what you pay for...:cool:

But it seems like so many people think NYC is the best city in the world, when its easier to make money espically in IM, in cities where things are cheaper, so you can save up faster.
 
The crowd is the reason, imo. I was there and I loved it because I came there from another city called Mumbai. For people who can work, there is work, they can socialize, they have abundance of everything and if they can afford to have a job then life is enjoyable there.

NewYorkers, natives and foreigners who have made NY their home, and tourists can see animated friends and people all around and enjoy the stay, and not see empty streets... There is easy movement all around the city, and there is a life that attracts youngsters (older youngsters are at home too), and crime: well it is a part and parcel of life now but many don't get affected by it...

P.S.:
I lived in affordable Queens, and of course it was comfortable and the surrounding was great and not at all cheap slum-like, and traveled every day to NYC (M'hattan). Living in Manhattan would have needed me to be a top celebrity... :)

NYC is considered cheap compared to Hong Kong, Tokyo and Moscow, but NYC does hold 3rd place in real estate.
 
I've been living in the upper west side of manhattan right on central park.. for the past year and it's pretty awesome here. My grandmother has been here since the 60's so she lives in a prime location for like $600 a month. Pretty sick deal.
 
It's about the connections offered in NYC, the networking opportunities are HUGE there. That's really why people pay to be there. It's not about weather when you live in NYC, it's about getting rich.

There 's a bubble peaking in the skyscraper biz and it 's not a good sign about the future, if you look at it from a historical view.

yeah you're correct. There is absolutely nothing that separates a city like NYC from vacation spots like Palm Beach. They offer the exact same opportunities, connections, events, and diversity in Palm Beach as they do in NYC.

I really can't think of one thing NYC could offer somebody than Palm Beach or Daytona Beach can't. They're, like, the exact same city except for the weather right? Absolutely 0 advantages in NYC over just any other city

You remind me of my daughter. She asks a question then argues the answer. It drives me crazy. This was just yesterday. "Should I go to graduate school?" "You have an excellent job right now with room for growth. I think you should stay where you are." "But I want to go to graduate school." This went on until I yelled at her "Why do you always ask my opinion then argue my answers? Do what you want." I think you just like to argue.
