What is tracking id in CB and how to use them?

I have decided to go for CB promotion. While getting my link, I saw the tracking ID box. What is this tracking ID and how to use it? I have some vague idea about it. I think it is used to keep the track of all the sales we do. So CB cant fool us. I am not sure of all this. can anybody help me in this? Thanks in advance.

Tracking id helps you to track your marketing campaigns. For example, if you are promoting something on youtube, you can put a tracking id as tid=youtube so that you can analyze the quality of your traffic and conversions. Similarly, if you are promoting it using your blog, you can put a tid=blog which will tell you that this user has come from blog etc.

Webnise is correct. Once you start making sales, CB provides (online) reports that you can view for clicks/sales/returns/etc for each product you promote. In addition to that, you can add a "tracking id". This lets you further break down reports into other ways of reporting that can help you determine where more of your sales are coming from.

One thing to keep in mind is that tracking ids span products. That is, if you sell some of three different products and use the same tracking id, when you produce a tid report, it will combine the sales of all three products.

Use them if you have affiliate links from different sources.
