Hi,
this is maybe a dumb question but I see that people use tier 1, tier 2 links and so on.
What is that exactly?

Tier 1 links are pointing directly to your website, whereas tier 2 links to tier 1 ones.

Also has a website traffic related definition - See Tire 1, Tire 2 list - http://prntscr.com/l3ee44 . If you need a full list of Tire 1, Tire 2, Tire 3 countries simply search on google then get it

Money site << Tier 1 << Tier 2.
You should build links wisely, building all backlinks directly to money site will flag your website on search engines, so using tier linking will be fine.
