It is definitely (cult-ish) but I suggest you read both books by the founder (Russell Brunson) they are very good and informative. He shares the exact formula he uses to market the software that he's pushing in those ads you're seeing and they're doing $100M+ this year.
are you saying he's making money selling things at advertisements instead of at the thing he describes he teaches people to do?
Clickfunnels is a platform/tool used to build landing pages, sales funnels, follow-up sequences, etc... basically, if you're selling an information based product (for example a weight loss program), you can use clickfunnels to build the pages for this product and to make sure that your conversion rate is high.

He's making money from ClickFunnels and using the teaching/books as a lead magnet. Or at least he was doing that, I haven't looked at him in years.
