What is the point of paying for domains here?

Look like hacked sites or something

So my question is: what is the point of creating those sites? What's the point of wasting time and money on them?

The sites looks so spammy. It's got to be a link network of some sort.

I have seen a lot of those, they just scrape top sites from Alexa and post those. I was curious about those myself, not sure what good these do?

I'm baffled... they get nothing for listing those sites (we don't even have Alexa anymore) but still have to pay for hosting and domains. And there are hundreds, if not thousands of sites.
Go figure.
