Might be a stupid question, but is there an explanation for google dance? For example one of my keywords in the last week has gone:
#26,#16,#7,#30,#9,#4 :)

Is it just the term for googles random movement or is there an actual reason behind it?

Google is counting and valuating the backlinks. Also, I think there is some good music :kabong:

It's the synchronisation of informations between the different data centers.

Once these informations are uploaded and updated in all concerned data centers, the pagerank is moving.

Panda updates also make the ranking to moove.

In most cases your site will do the google dance as google starts to index ur backlinks and as more and more backlinks start to come in google is busy trying to see where the best place to rank ur site is. A good idea at this stage would be to make sure that all ur on page SEO is done properly... one of the tools I use for this is SEOPRESSOR.. u shud be able to find it for free on this forum...if not then drop me a PM and I will mail it to u.. it's a wordpress plugin so I'm assuming here that ur site is in Wordpress....hmmm just some quick pointers that u might already know but it's more or less how I do my rankings

1. Do not get impatient and rush it, doing too much at once will hinder the actual process.

2. Get your main keyword and also related keywords (as many as 10 even) write GOOD, content that actually provides quality information related to ur niche..write 1 post for each of the related keywords u have... in the post create a link back to ur main page for the MAIN keyword and then one back to ur main page with the related keyword...again do this for each of ur related keywords.. so if u have 10 related keywords then do 10 seperate posts..BUT drip feed them 1 post per day.

3. The bottom line is that no matter what anyone of those dumbfck guru's tell u... ON PAGE SEO carries more weight than Off page SEO... You need to make sure that you provide proper content to keep visitors on ur site for a fair amount of time.. if you have a high Bounce rate (people gettting on ur site and leaving after a few seconds) then Big G also keeps track of this and it will effect ur SERP rankings.

4. The goal here is to get your site ranked in the tops spots and KEEP IT THERE... so once you have ur on page seo done properly and good content (use SEO pressor also to help with ON page SEO) then u focus on Off page SEO.. this is what will help u stay ranked...the amount of backlinks u have mean jack shit unless they are quality, relevant backlinks.

Thats a basic blah blah blah.. hope this helps.

GOOD LUCK DUDE!

Ah that makes sense!

"Google Dance" has often been used to describe the index update of the Google search engine.

Google's index update occurred on average once per month. During an index update there was significant movement in search results and Google showed new backward links for pages.

good explanation, especially for anybody (like me) who does seo work for local businesses who look at you like youre making it up when you use expressions like 'google dance' or 'panda updates' :p

I think Google also sneaks in beta tests of its algo revisions into its resync process, to try out their effects on rankings. The dances thus set the stage for the permanent revisions.

^^ yep that's the most logical explanation. Don't know if it's factual or not? The only other thing I was thinking is that maybe google checks different factors at different times - which could also explain a lot of jumping around.

Makes sense as well.

Or google just love music and since the blog are at their mercy, they just call them up to the dance floor to try some moves.
Happy new year celebration in advance.

Google Dance is the Procedure When Google Count Your Old and New back links..So Your Website Ranking Goes Upper And Down ..And at the End When Calculations Completed You will Get final Rank.
