Hi guys,
Everyone has one. A campaign you paused for a reason that seemed logical at the time. Then when you restarted nothing ever worked the same.Mine was a Google search campaign that had been running for 8 months. Client asked to pause for a product revamp. 6 weeks pause. Could never get back to previous performance. The algorithm had forgotten everything. Took another 4 months to get close.
What campaign do you regret pausing?

I paused a winning Facebook ad for just two weeks when we ran out of stock. When I turned it back on, the algorithm completely forgot who my buyers were.

I paused a steady retargeting ad for a month, and the costs tripled when I turned it back on. The pixel completely lost its recent data momentum.

Paused a high ROAS retargeting campaign thinking it will be easy to switch back… but performance dropped hard and never fully bounced back.

same story basically, paused for "budget reasons" for 2 weeks and quality score never fully recovered after

Yeah learned this the hard way with a high ticket lead gen campaign on search. Paused it for a holiday weekend years ago and it just died when we turned it back on. Now I never pause anything if I can help it. If a client wants to pause for a few weeks I just drop the budget to like 5% of the original and let it trickle. Keeps the algorithm active and saves you from having to go through learning phase again. @NOV 6 weeks is brutal though, at that point you sometimes have to just duplicate the campaign and start fresh because the original is basically bricked.

I once paused a high-performing Google Search campaign during a website redesign. The break was only a few weeks, but when it came back, CPA increased and it took months to recover.
