What is the best way to build links using black hat techniques and avoiding penalties?

I just had this thought while I was analyzing Angela's profile links. If you guys noticed, Angela was promoting this article: http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=1151743 under the search term "backlinks". A few days ago I noticed the article was ranked #2 under "backlinks" search term on Google and Yahoo. However, it suddenly disappear from top 10 from Google. So it makes me think the page was dropped down due to spamming, or it is fluctuating because new Google's feature: Caffeine.

I have to admit, Angela footprints are very obvious. Most of her profile pages uses the same user name which is very foolish. Moreover, she added no content on those profiles. They do not look as natural profile page having 2 spammy links.

So if I want to use the same method of promotion. Should I use an intermediary page as Angela did or just put a direct link to my money sites? The point is to avoid any penalization.

Have you had success using profile links as Angela?

What would you do in this case?

If you look at some of the other sites in the top 10 a few of them (the forum at#2 and article at #6 in particular) are using a high percentage of profile backlinks. If you look at backlinks.cc at #10 it has no content at all, so much for content being the most important thing in Google's eyes. It is probably more a matter of her not keeping up with the other sites going for the "backlinks" keyword rather than a penalty. I have not seen Google treating profile links any different due to the caffeine update. I use them quite a bit and have not noticed any drops or fluctuations in rankings.


Having said that I do think you should have a variety of links. Relying on any one method is never a good idea. While I have found that profile links work pretty well especially in low to moderate competition keywords mixing things up seems to give me the best results. A few articles from either (or both) article sites and web 2.0 sites, some links on actual pr pages, and a bunch of profile links seems to work pretty well. As a general rule I do not do much blog commenting, while it does seem to give a rankings boost the link turnover causes more bouncing around in the serps than I personally like.

You are right, we must diversify to make the backlinking process look natural . Nonetheless, what I want to know whether you guys use an intermediary page as a WEB 2.0 property or article for backlinking or just put your money site in the profile pages.

I got really surprised seeing Angela's article out of the competition. If someone reported that page is obvious that google removed it from ranking for that keyword because it was heavily spammed. Market samurai analysis on Angela's article shows 538 links using the same anchor text "backlinks" which is unnatural IMO.

I do not really want seeing one of my sites being banned from top 10 because of some BH hater reporting it to google. Of course I would not be such stupid placing no content on the profiles nor using the same user name and the same anchor text.
