Honestly, they all suck some type of ass, but I was in the same spot youre in now. I tried xtreemhost, Byethost, and X10. I like the last 2 the most, but free hosts are kinda strict. I like X10 the most out of those 3, it has everything you need for html, css, php, mysql. xtreemhost also likes to go down sometimes.... ALWAYS back up your data. I tried to run a image gallery on xtreemhost and it totally shut me out my account, i couldnt even back up my database without paying for their service (which i didnt).

After you learn your coding, I strongly suggest you switch to hostgator, only 7 bucks month and I have no issues so far! The FTP upload is like switching from 56k to 10Mb/s internet!

Also, coding is great but remember there are shortcuts, I learned how to code websites/blogs completely from scratch and then learned that Wordpress and Joomla can get the same thing done in 30 minutes (took me 3-7 days doing html, css, php, mysql by hand!) Just throwing that out there!

Proprietary coding or do you want to run a full CMS? Because if you're going to do your own coding just to practice, you may as well run your own Apache server with PHP/MySQL and practice on your own computer rather than relying on a host.

If you do need a host, I have used 000webhost before and others will suggest that after me.
