There's no one answer to this question. Depends on how you plan to monetize, what offers the network has, etc... search will help you find most popular companies.
Clickbank pros: Up to 75% affiliate commission. Cookie duration 60 days.
Clickbank cons: Most products are informational and downloaded immediately after purchase. This leads to a high refund rate because alot of the products are crap or the person buys the product, downloads the info, then gets a refund cause they can keep the file on their hard drive and still get their money back.
A final note:
If you promote a specific product for amazon you will more than likely be competing against amazon as they generally hold a first page ranking for most all of their products.
Clickbank does not do this. Therefore you will only be competing with the product creator and their affiliates.
As said above, it really depends on your skills and promotion methods. I was reading the thread and wondering why you would choose between those two affiliate programs?
When I remember my affiliate days I was more concerned about finding the best commissions %, flexible payouts and basically a good products that my customers will like to buy over and over...
it's true that both programs you mentioned are quite reliable, the question is how much you can actually earn with them per sale... as far as I know, the bigger the program the smaller the affiliate, yet... the lower the commissions... am I wrong?
Anyway... between those two, I will go for clickbank.
Try some of the affiliate programs of some medium sized companies, in my experience they're generally well run with some pretty nice payouts.
What I mean by this is try finding companies that have their own affiliate programs, ones that don't just slap a profile onto click bank or amazon. Try going down to the footer of any website that sells a product and see if theres an affiliates link. A lot of the websites offer really good commissions and bonuses. I did this with web hosting companies where I got excellent affiliate support and really big payments.
Clickbank is for digital products and amazon is for physical products. The good thing with promoting digital products is that you get a much bigger % of the sale because there's no manufacturing cost. The downside is that the selection of products is much lower and it's muuuuch more difficult to find long tail keywords to rank for.
That's why I recommend amazon for newbies. Create review sites for many products and you'll have small money makers here and there, making you a nice living. If this interests you, I suggest that you get a copy of Matt Carter's course Rapid Profit Formula. That will teach you everything you need to know in detail.
