If the US govt passes these laws it will negatively impact the free internet around the world.
Which will be what their sites will be permantly if SOPA passes

I disagree with your response to OP. Why should a person leave this forum for asking a question about something they don't know? Or is complete grasp of the sum total of all knowledge in the entire world a requirement for membership here?

If SOPA (house of reps) and/or PIPA (senate) passes, the big money media companies will have the ability to shut down almost anyone who competes with them and the US govt will have unprecedented power to censor and control internet content and even search results.
Hit wikipedia and read the articles linked on the blackout page. Then take 3 minutes to CALL your congressional reps and senators office. A call has much more impact than an email.
All you have to say is "You represent me and I am opposed to SOPA and PIPA because they unfairly cater to big business, go too far in restricting free speech and give excessive power to the government. Please oppose this legislation!"
Even if you live outside the US you need to get involved. Call your govt representative and tell them to voice their disapproval of the US legislation.
