Basically, it's something to hide yourself

1) Free proxies. Hard to do something with them as lots of people are using them and they die quickly (stop working)
2) Private proxies (you have to pay for them, best thing)

When you connect to internet, an IP is assigned to your PC
Ex: 111.111.111.11
So this becomes YOU

By using a proxy, you can make your PC show another IP
Another YOU if you prefer

So you can signup to things with more than one account.
You can create more users or anything else.
In fact, lots of things are possible using proxies (more YOU)

Remember that some are transperant, which means it shows your real ip so be careful on the free proxies you use
Kinda like a fake protection in a way

Hope it helps

I guess you would have known by now what actually is a proxy.

You can think of a proxy as a intermediary between you and the internet. Typically, these are used to remain anonymous and allow for a large number of automated tasks, such as account creation or scraping. Also, you can use them to make it seem like you are from another state/country.

There are two types of proxies:
1. Shared proxies are cheap or free and are used by multiple people. The downside to this is that if one of them engages in malicious activities, it will adversely impact all other users of that proxy.
2. Private proxies are only used by you and therefore do not have that problem. Naturally, they are more expensive.

a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource available from a different server and the proxy server evaluates the request as a way to simplify and control their complexity.

thanks

Proxies are the condoms of the internet world...It protects you but free/cheap ones break.

Great for raping Google

Cheers,

Proxy server is a software (such as squid, wingate and ccproxy) installed on some computer server. The main purpose of proxy is to relay traffic between two computers (client and server). Usually it does some data caching to improve the performance. If your browser is configured to work through the proxy server then all your surfing traffic will go through that proxy server.
