What is internal link optimization process?

According to me in internal link optimization process you need to interlink the webpages of a website. For example if you have a keyword "k1" on your home page then you can link this keyword to page which is targeting "k1" keyword ( or which has information about "k1" ). You can repeat this process for different pages of your site.
This interlinking helps in easy navigation to the user and also helps in internal passing of the link juice (which in turn can help in increasing the PR)

Basically search engines improve their ranking algorithms, content must be as targeted as possible to achieve a position in the coveted top 10. Internal links in your website require anchor text with high relevancy to the page each link points to.
Example, if you have a page about any keyword, giving a link pointing to that page the anchor text "keyword" would be confusing for both users and search engine bots. Make sure your internal links contain targeted keywords

By targeting important keywords using anchor text, you are maximizing your gain from internal linking. The ideal way to correctly link within your site is to link more within your site. Performing this makes it more intricate and effective in terms of linking. It also makes sure your link power is regulated along your site so one page can?t be too much more powerful than another and that if one page becomes more powerful so does the entire website.

Have you tried SEO Auto Linker? Its based on SEO Smart Links but with extra features to make it even easier.
Internal Linking is the best way to get relevant back links by linking pages within your wInternal links will help your website pages in getting crawled by the search engines easily. And however, they are not very helpful in the seo process while comparing to the backlinks (inboud/incoming links).

As far i know its the process to decrease the bounce rate and keep your visitors inside your web network.
just link one page to another page by using the popular keywords of your website and also use the related keywords which people may want to know about.

A bit of my thoughts:
- There is the same PageRank principle valid for internal pages (as if they were external websites). Thus, you can use GSC/Ahrefs/Semrush to figure out the pages with maximum/minimum # of linking internal pages and shift the weight to the most important ones
- The weight of links on header/footer is lower than that of the content links
- Avoid anchor spam just like for off-page SEO
- Make sure to provide visitors with contextual, relevant links to related content within your website to improve # of page views and, generally, the UX

There are some good answers up there. It has become very important over the years. I like the wordpress pluging link whisper. Especially, if you are managing large sites, it helps you make sure you don't have orphan pages/posts. Another thing that a lot of people overlook is having their own sitemap, in addition to the one for engines. Map out your site for readers showing them where all the internal links are. You can even make a video and put it on youtube to advertise it there "a guide to *** website"

Borrow the thread as I have some thoughts based on how my competitors build their internal URL links.
Today I link directly to the affiliate partner which is a very long link.
(This will be an external link)
Competitors instead have an internal URL that they link to and then make a redirect to the affiliate partner. (this will be an internal link)
My question.
Does it do this because they are easier to remember the link address and maintain it or is it related to SEO and it ranks higher because it does not have external links on its money page?
