What is easy competetion? Under 500 backlinks??

I'm new and researching some niches. The number one in google has about 2000 backlinks according to market samurai?

How difficult is it to outrank this site? Furthermore what number of backlinks would you gauge as easy, difficult and don't try lol???

it all depends on authority of the backlinks, not the quantity

don't judge competition by the amount of backlinks they have, judge by the PR of the backlinks, or by if they are .edu or .gov. backlinks. My competitor has 400 backlinks, 200 are from ChaCha, the other 200 are all over the place, I'm beating him with only 50. In my opinion, 1 quality backlink = 500 bad ones.
