What is difference between a successful and a unsuccessful Internet Marketer?

I am doing affiliate marketing for a year and have only managed to earn only $54. I think my lack of consistency and zero funds to spend on the website is holding me back.
Making your first $50 is twice as hard as making your next $200.
Keep going.

Being successful in something or not, is specific to individual people. Now, coming to specifically your question "What is difference between a successful and a unsuccessful Internet Marketer?". People do internet marketing ONLY to make money. So, people set some monetary targets to achieve on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis. If one is achieving these targets on an ongoing basis, then that person considers himself or herself as a successful internet marketeer, irrespective of what targets he or she sets for himself or herself. It is as simple as that.
Example : An internet marketeer, let us name him Sam, sets a monthly profit target of US$5000 for himself. But, on an ongoing basis, Sam over-achieves and makes monthly profits of US$7500. Sam considers himself as very successful and he is very happy.
However, he meets another internet marketeer named Tim and Tim makes on an ongoing basis, makes a monthly profit of US$100,000 and Tim tells Sam "Hey, Sam, you are unsuccessful, as you are making monthly profits of just $7500, and look at me I'm making monthly profits of US$100,000.
That in reality DOES NOT make Sam an ussuccessful internet marketeer, because Sam feels he is successful and happy achieving (infact over-achieving) on an ongoing basis all his monthly monetary targets.
DO NOT LET OTHER PEOPLE DEFINE TO YOU WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO YOU, regardless whether you are into internet marketing or anything else. Success is personal evaluation and a personal feeling and is (or rather must be) specific to each individual.

Now, coming to what you mentioned, that in 1 year of internet marketing, you made just $54, would ideally indicate that you are not dedicating enough time to it (considering it is $54 you made in ONE YEAR).

And you mentioned "zero funds to spend on the website". To be honest website expenses is just a basic expense in internet marketing and if you do not have funds for that also, then I suggest that If you are broke, then for now do not think of internet marketing income. First get a full-time job and along with that full-time job, do a real (brick & mortar) side hustle. Yes, that means you will be working 14 to 16 hours a day .... but, wait .... While you are doing your full-time job and side hustle, SAVE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN for a few months, then after that stop your side hustle, but continue your full-time job and with the money saved, while you are in your full-time job, try internet marketing, if you find success, scale it up and finally quit your full-time job and go full-time into internet marketing. Yes, sounds good in theory, right .... But, MANY people have done it and so can you. All the best.

Yes I do.
However, I realize that many factors contributed to it that I had no control over. For example, I was born in a first world country and had access to free education. In addition, business opportunities arose for me that were more of a coincidence. Sure, I also work 70 hours a week. However, if we take it exactly, even the willingness to work hard is to a certain extent genetically determined and therefore coincidental.

What I was getting at with my post, however, is survivorship bias. I just wanted to point out that the base rate has to be taken into account when comparing the characteristics of successful and unsuccessful people.
If you want to know whether a certain character trait or a certain method leads to success you have to take the succesful and the unsuccessful people into account. Not only the succesful.

Your comments were interesting.

The single most important success factor you can see everywhere is how good you know your audience according to me.

If you don't know them and don't understand their needs and how to communicate with them, you have a high chance to fail.

Businesses who know their customers the best win.

I see so many people shooting at everyone with their ads online without doing sniper targeting and after they don't understand why it fails...

Know your customer, respect a clear digital strategy, don't be all over the place and spend more to acquire a customer than your competition, use fidelisation and increase your CLV and you have a real money making machine.

Hi! Analyze what you're doing wrong. Maybe we should find another approach to this?
