What is considered plagiarism?

If I want to re-write something and use it as my own, how different does it have to be from the original to avoid claims of plagiarism?

Some sources are saying if you change the wording it's not plagiarism, but others are saying you have to make it totally unrecognizable from the original text for it to not be plagiarism.

Try using AI, write the paragraph first and then use AI to rewrite it. Maybe that's the best way

That's not what I asked. I asked how much it needs to be changed to avoid plagiarism.

You need to modify it more than just change a few words or use synonyms to avoid claims for plagiarism.
