What is bookmarking?

Hey lads, so I've looked through a lot of SEO packages and they all provide a specific service which I do not understand how it works - Bookmarking.

So from googling and searching around bhw, from what I can tell... a social bookmark for seo is like a paste it, with relevant URLs that people bookmark to their browser for later use, this tells google it is important content? How exactly does it work and how do use it effectively?

Do I have to use sites like twitter or anotepad or pasteit and put my site in with some relevant text and then have some people bookmark it - thus this will tell google it's importan and valueable content? How many people have to bookmark it and if so, is there a tool to spoof bookmark amounts? Or how do you go about it in a whitehat way, doing it legit?

Any answers would be really appreciated, the newbie guide section doesn't tell anything about this and the sellers are really vague about it.

Bookmarking sites are early web2.0 tech that tried to be useful in sharing info but just turned into a free-for-all linking strategy. It's a very old link building technique, popularised probably over a decade ago with apps like Ultimate Demon, which used to submit your urls to thousands of sites running Pligg or Scuttle (both open-source bookmarking CMSs).

Being that your account is from 2011 I'm surprised you haven't seen social bookmarking as a tactic before, it was all the rage back then. But anyway, it's not something I would bother with nowadays, and most of the links I see from such platforms are 302 redirects anyway.

Thank you. So all those packages that offer it are just basically trash?

Also, I was underage back in 2011, I did not enter the webmaster sphere because It was very difficult back then to purchase anything. Paypal kept freezing my accounts etc. I was into video game servers and random nonsense like neobucks, hyip, pyramid schemes and bitcoin back then.
