    Hi guys ,

I was wondering , now i know domain name can impact a little when it does to SEO. But i have a question. Is it better to go for the shortest relevant or the one that makes more sense. for instance if it was a website on say training your dog but dogtips_com was taken , would it be better to go for doginformatiom_com or would something shorter like dogtip_com be better.

Obviously for returning visits the shorter would probably be better but im asking from a search engines veiw.

    hope that made sense

Couldnt find what catagorie this fit.So please move if needed.

It really depends on what your ultimate goal is for the site. If you are looking to make an authority site that people will want to potentially share the name verbally, or offline, you want the catchiest domain name you can find.

If you are just going the SEO route, find one with relevant keywords, but make sure its not an exact match to your main keyword. Exact match domains have started to lose relevance on google.

    The length doesn't necessarily matter.

    avoid using exact matching domain.
choose a catchy short domain. Not necessary there has to be keyword in it. But make it short.
Most successful websites don't have keywords in their domain name but 99% of them are short.

This is sound advice, but it's for a branding project. You'll need to market your short and catchy name. Whereas if you have a project to sell some specific product, you may not want the branding as much as the traffic for sales, in which case having the kw in the url will make it cheaper to market.

You make the domain name special and the domain name does not make you special.
Keep the domain name short and memorable. So it sticks in peoples brains and it is easy
for them to type it out.
