Use paid one like ahref. Free ones are useless.
I think you can use Ahrefs for free if you connect your GSC and it's just for one site. I emphasise the word ' think', as we have paid plans.

Even semrush gives some free searches but one will always run out as lot of data is needed.

I think Ubersuggest is the best free backlink checker tool and it can also help you in checking other things and it is free of cost tool by Neil Patel.

ahrefs and moz are free , but would show you only 300 to 400 backlinks count !
