What is an e-mail list worth ?

So,

A friend of mine recently offered to sell me an e-mail list of 150 000 opt in e-mail addresses.

What do you guys think that this is worth ?

I have no idea, and dont want to be ripped off, pm if you dont want to post.

Also, is it illegal for me to buy/sell said list?

He sells you only the list as a text file or an autoresponder account with 150K opt-iins in it?
 
depends what niche are these emails belong.. Please know if the emails are active and not a junk emails.. Btw, I can give you emails if you want for free and I'll tell you how to get free emails using google. Let's talk in Skype: derken06

He says it can be targeted to any market i want...i was thinking about re-selling for a small profit, but i see that they are not worth that much. I myself dont have time to do anything with it.

Apperantly they are opt in, and it would be in a text file and be targeted to a variety of niches...okay so apperantly he wants $500.

I also asked him about them being active, apperantly they are recent.

$500 seems steep
 
The fact he only wants $500 for a 150,000 strong list tells me the list is either: a) Not targeted enough b) Has been spammed to death & low CR c) Something's fishy.

A professionally built & maintained list of that size with mainly US/UK/AU/CA subscribers would be worth nearer: $xx,xxx - $xxx,xxx (depending on industry).

Depends on the niche and age of leads.

For example i have purchased 1.2 million payday loan leads which are up to 6 months old for 800$ and it was really good investment.
