What is Affiliate networking

Im new to this site and also to owning my own website selling cameo jewelry, so i created the site and tried to get onto google and a few other search engines, but its not working for me, i have no traffic but from the friends i send to it!!! hugely disappointed, but then i came here and see this discussion on affiliates???

what is an affiliate and where do i go to join or at least apply?

I would appreicate4 any help whatsoever! bit thick to the website thing, wanna be a guru for my own site and at least understand what it is i am trying to accomplish in gaining business

If your selling items.. then you don't want an affiliate network you need to find a way to drive traffic to the site.

well according to em affiliate networking means joining under soem products selling company or services company then getting business to them. So, that we can get paid commission
