So I was selling a service on DP , someone asked me for a review copy, what is a review copy, does it mean they want to try it out for free in exchange for a review?

Yes, it means they want it for free...and in return are supposed to review it for you.

Most will just scoff the free copy and you'll never here from them again.

Give one half price review copy. ;) And only to reputated members with a lot of posts.

Exactly, don't give out free copies, give review copies at a discount so you can see who's serious about asking to review.

Also, make sure they actually review it for you! DP is notorious for people who ask for, buy a review copy, and don't actually provide a review.

That being said, buying reviews is kind of dishonest and a bribe. Also, give out a product for free limited review as an incentive of sorts to boost reputation; make sure it's filled with good, but generally generic information. It'll be like a forum or blog post that brings you much better reputation :)

Glad i searched "review copy". Keep seeing this phrase everywhere. There should be a sticky with common "terms" for noobs like me.

A review copy is a work order that will surely make you review whether being an article writer or ebook creator is really what you need to be doing with your life. Only give review copies out to select members who fit the qualifications that are likely to help your service (high post count, reputed members with lots of followers, thanks, etc...) and when possible, offer them at a discount instead of offering them for free. You do not want to strat your service out by showing that you are the bottom of the barrel, desparate, and easy to take advantage of.
