Is it how much money I'm offering to pay?

Or is it money I'm gonna try to make?

Bid is the amount of money that you're willing to do the project for.

It's a job application you make (saying why you are perfect for the job) that includes how much you're charging for it.

When you join upwork of whcich may see like several attempts it is not only you but a lot more peoel ahve joined with you or there are a lot more people that are already on upwork and looking for work. When a job is posted you have to bid and a bid is like a request to the employer that you need the job and youb tell the what you can do and how well you are foing to do it.

Bid is generally the amount that you would take if you get the project or the task.

A bid is what you write when you want to apply for a job on upwork. That is because upwork has a lot of people that apply for the same job and the employers need to know that you are of doing the job. The employers sometimes write secret words int he description and you have to write in on your bid. Just follow the instructions and you will be abel to make a bid.
