What I learned from fixing a messed-up anchor map

I on boarded a site that had nearly 70% of its links going to just two commercial pages , mostly exact match anchors. Rankings were flatlined. Took 2 months of slow dilution with branded and natural anchors before anything moved. Now it’s climbing steadily.
