Long story short 3 months ago i started my own clothing brand, not having much money to spend on it i decided to use redbubble to make shirts and instagram to advertise.
I made the design myself and the promos too (i have professional After Effects Skills so it was the part i enjoyed the most).
Now months later i only made 50 buck out of it not a good thing.
I can pinpoint a few errors i made:
1)Not setting any goals
-This speaks for itself
2)Using redbubble in the first place
-Redbubble is sh*t, really don't use it, your profit margin is abysmal, the take 80% of your profit, not counting taxes that will eat another 5%.
The only good thing is internal traffic but nowdays there is too much competiton and most niches are already been taken.
If i haven't used redbubble my profits would be now 300 dollars (most of my sales came from the ig account).
It is possible to make money there but you must break copyright rules, a thing i wasn't willing to do, or be very a lucky and skilled artist.
I also don't tink this is a good site to start a brand, it is more random design and fanart oriented.
3) Choosing a niche that is way to small
-I uploaded my art without prior market research, I just uploaded art that i liked to make(depression and dark related themes, sometimes vaporwave), the weird thing is that the lazyer the design was the more people buyed it.
Also my designs were not that good.
4)Not investing enough money on insta advertising
-I invested close to nothing, and that is what instagram gave me back.
5)Ripoffs don't work at all
-I tried to steal a niche that was selling well, pratically ripoffing some poor guy design that he was also ripoffing from a tumblr account.
I got 0 sales on that design.
So yeah here what i learned, I'm keeping the brand as an hobby now.
Sorry for the broken english.
