This is Google demonstrating how its new Google assistant software, basically a speech based AI that calls for you.

What happens when call centers themselves start using this technology for call marketing? Thoughts...

Oh my god, seeing this video going viral everywhere for past several days.

I had involvded in a project like this with a company in the past which need to train a chatbot to book a restaurent, several months later with tons of feed from actual chat booking data, at the of finishing the bot actually catches almost all the of data from your chat precisely. Only thing sudden irrelevant message or local slang tend to confuse them which just repeat the question again. They did not said who is behind the research but it most likely a big player.

So whats the point, give all jobs to bots then to protest against bots for stealing jobs.

I remember nimbuzz chat app was very early app which had a brillaint chat bot. At that time i was so envy on that, lol it actually chats like a human.

In coming years,...

Looking forward to see Google overcome this in the future.

They won't unless google offers a modified version as a business service or they develop their own by training. It was trained for booking an appointment not for dealing with various different tech support or other support issues.

Just thought I should update on an analysis by WIRED: https://www.wired.com/story/google-duplex-phone-calls-ai-future/
“Pretty soon it’s not going to be hard for someone to type in the words to have a virtual assistant break up with their boyfriend,” he says. “Or, ‘call my elderly mom this weekend.’ I’m being a little hyperbolic, but we’re actually here.”

^^That's some lost revenue from everyone ranking on "how to break up with my boyfriend" keyword.

haha, breaking up with your girlfriend via Google Assistant is the best :)

Google has admitted it could be an ethical nightmare, they are rethinking it.
Might delay this but I see clear commercial viability in this--no reason other companies won't develop similar things anyway.

Google admitted they need to declare it's a bot at the beginning of the conversation
Actually didn't know that--I wonder how it will affect implementation.

One implication to consider--may actually boost usage by advertising the service through each call.

yeah, it's conceivable but not yet, it still has a long way to go. Call center operations are not that easy to be caught up by AI programs just yet.
It'll need several years worth of research which for google isn't that complex. They can shorten that span a bit but what do you know, we'll see it in coming days, won't we?

Interesting.. I'd love love to invest some time to learn about AI
