I listed some items ($xxx) for a family member. I gave them $xxxx from sales out of my paypal & then my account got limited... because he didn't get all the cash he needed, he kept what I already gave him & pawned the merchandise for additional cash. I told the buyers that my account got limited & I would not be able to complete the transaction so to please do a chargeback so that they wouldn't lose out on their cash. I approved refunds, but the bank account has long been closed, so that just put my paypal in the negative & they wouldn't let me approve any more refunds.

Anyway, other than losing my ebay & paypal accounts, & probably collections from paypal... do I have any legal issues to worry about?

You're only in trouble if you still owe refunds. The best thing to hope for is that eBay account getting killed with negative feedback and being banned. If you only owe a little money, people usually just complain a lot then forget about it. If you owe a lot, they may pursue you legally.

well they should be covered through paypal buyer protection or doing a chargeback on their cc, so it should be more like I owe paypal money.... but possibly yeah

No legal issues other than the PP collections. Just watch your ebay account i once ended up in collections because my paypal got limited and i stopped using my ebay withought knowing that ebay tried to charge my pp like a 3$ listing fee on the limited account. By the time the sent me the letter that 3$ turned into 33$ but not to bad of a lesson i guess.

whenever i sell stuff for friends and/or family, i make sure they buyer receives the merchandise and is happy with it before i release any funds. i avoid selling for others though.

Yeah, it is pretty high, mid $xxxx . Lesson learned for sure. If I didn't already know it was only a matter of time before I would have been screwed by paypal anyway it would upset me more. At least I know how to start again.
