    Hi

    seems like Facebook stopped supporting the share button??

    i have a share button on my site, and I checked it today and it doesn't display right on Firefox, although it is clickeable and functional... on Chrome and Opera, it only displays a text saying "Share"...

    This sounds like the biggest problem you are ever going to be faced with in your whole life

    By the way for the uninformed like me WTF is Facebook!

    Can anyone tell me as all I see is BS folks write about Facebook - which gets me confused.

    I'm a big fan of the share button. It's better than the like button. But last week or 2 weeks ago, the share button totally stopped working. After a few days it was still not working, so i removed it because i read on some places fb totally depreciated the share button. But now it seems the share button is back, but with a different behaviour just like you described. I haven't found the time yet to investigate it, but you can see some working example on http://www.clint.be/sport/general-kompany-s-werelds-beste-verdediger .

    Well, it looks like you're right. The Share Button has disappeared from their documentation almost completely. However, I did find something that I think might be useful to you.
    developers d0t facebook d0tcom slash docs slash reference slash dialogs slash feed
    The Feed Dialog will behave very much like the Share Button did, but you'll have to do some more work to get this one going. I hope this helps.

    it is true facebook stopped developing/improving the share button when it came out with the Like button... However the share button was still supported but they would recommend using the Like button instead...
    But now the share button doesnt display correctly, although if I click on it, it works...

    The problem with the like button is that it's different from the share button function-wise... On the news feed, u get "Joe Smith like a page", and then the link + pic of that page... With the share button, u get the link+pic directly, so it's more hardcore to me...

    Moreover, with the like button on your website, when a visitor clicks on it not only does it share it, but it also registers it on facebook as a page he likes... much like a Facebook Page that fans like...

    ok guys, i got it to work again :D
    It seems like Facebook slightly modified their javascript for the Share button.
    Previously, including the "type" attribute wasn't necessary. Now it's arbitrary. My code was:

    HTML:
    <a name="fb_share">
    I added the "type" attribute for it to work:

    HTML:
    <a name="fb_share" type="button_count">
    You have a few options for type, as you may know...

    One key difference now is that there doesn't seem to be a way to translate the word "share" into other languages...
    Previously this could be done simply by adding the text between the <a> tag... Like "partager" in french for example:

    HTML:
    <a name="fb_share" type="button_count"> Partager </a>
    But this doesn't work anymore, you still get "Share" in english... I'll try to find out how to do it..

    and btw, i can confirm Facebook did in fact replace the share button with the Feed Dialog button which seems to give more options, which is cool...
