What happened to seo?

You perfectly described the modern link vendor market. Google's recent spam updates completely nuked standard guest posts, so sellers just resort to faking DA metrics on pure link-farms to survive. If you want actual needle-moving authority today, you have to completely ignore public lists and aggressively do manual outreach yourself.

yeah the game’s changed a lot… most of that low-effort link spam and fake metrics don’t move the needle anymore, Google is way stricter now. real wins are coming from clean sites, relevant links, and actual authority, not bulk packages.

it’s slower but more stable now—quality over shortcuts is basically the only thing still holding up long term.
 
It’s basically a swamp of automation and fake data now you have to ignore those da or dr numbers and actually check if the site has real traffic yourself. If the site doesn't get actual visitors from google the link won't do a thing for your rankings.
 
Yeah, the space has definitely gotten noisy, but that doesn’t mean real SEO is dead-it just means the shortcuts are louder. Google’s much better now at ignoring fake authority, irrelevant placements, and mass syndication, so those tactics rarely move the needle long-term. What’s actually working is relevance, real traffic sites, strong content, and clean, contextual links that make sense. It’s slower and less flashy, but it’s the only approach that still holds up.
 
I've found out that using E-E-A-T and nothing else is enough to get you to rank. I launched my site and within 24 hours I had views. A month later I'm at over 11,000 impressions with 12 REAL backlinks. Most of my backlinks are NoFol Fiverr and SEO spam that is no follow from Google bots. I spent less that $600 in backlnks and $430 of it was 1 link package of PR syndications.
 
SEO didn’t get worse the internet just got crowded with low quality, numbers focused spam.
Sometimes the market just follows what people want. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of people asking for high-quality links at cheap prices but those two usually don’t go together. That’s why some people take advantage of it by creating spammy sites and selling them as “quality” links.
 
I get high quality backlinks at wholesale. Links you find online that places sell for hundreds, I can get for the price of a meal at Mcdonalds. When seo spammers email me I ask them for their price list and when I get it I laugh at their crazy prices and tell them what I get them for and they ghost me. I even do it to fiverr spammers. It's fun and I learn how the seo industry underbelly works. I can track Pakistani workers hitting my site as they try to analyze how its ranking with free fiverr spam links. SEO is wonderful. :)
