what happen to my back links?

    Before, as I see Google webmaster tools, under "Links to your site" section we had 287 links, but as of today 5/23/12 it only show 37 links to site. Just curious why is that happened?

    After the updates perhaps a lot of the sites that were linking to you have been de-indexed?

    Or the links might have been removed by those site owners.

    These could have been non-permanent links, if you bought some kind of service...
    The links might have been taken down by the service providers to maintain the link juice to their sites for future customers.

    Maybe you linked from bad neighborhood sites. The same thing happened to me a while ago.

    Maybe the sites were deindexed and the links from them devaluated. If you all the links were from private networks, maybe the owners deleted those networks after they were deindexed.
