What games do you usually play with your friends on weekends?

I'm curious what everyone is playing these days.

Back in the day, my friends and I used to play volleyball, cricket, and occasionally go swimming on weekends. These days, after marriage and with everyone busy with work and family responsibilities, getting the whole group together has become quite rare.

What's your go to weekend game or activity these days?

Do you still regularly play games or sports with your friends on weekends, or has adult life taken over?

Adulthood & family life stole everything, we don't even have suitable time to meet up yearly once:(.

I've no friends anymore, but when I did (early 2000s) we used to host LAN parties during weekends (Friday afternoon till Sunday at midday) playing lotta stuff (Stacraft, Quake / Counterstrike, FIFA, Nascar, Bomberman)... And then came WoW and I lost all of my friends and LAN parties to this infested, putrid rot of a brainwashing and time eating garbage of a game (I refused to play it, and to even try it)

And during the week (and this went on into the 2010s actually) we did play football (the real one) and sometimes (like few times a year) ping-pong.... although, the ping-pong had come later on, when 3/4 of my friends were already having family, babies, jobs (some of them even went to work abroad, so I lost them for good at that point), so we were like 2-3 dudes left that were meeting up for ping-pong. This had lasted for nearly 1 year and then it stopped with the last 2 of those dudes finally leaving too (one of them went to work in France, the other one God knows what's happened to him...)

Anyway, that's about it! Nowadays I've got no friends anymore (I could make virtual ones, but what's the point if you never meet up in the other virtual life, the one that's supposed to be real but it's not)... and since I also have a hard time making new friends (I mean, genuine friends, not drink buddies or whatever) I'm alone now and don't play any games anymore... except maybe for when Titan Quest 2 finally gets released on GOG (if that will even happen).

But even if TQ 2 comes out on GOG I will still play single player, just because I don't have the reflexes from my youth, nor am I a social person by nature, so I prefer the relaxed, cozy experience instead of adrenaline-inducing and loud one that multiplayer offers :)

Adult life definitely makes it harder to get everyone together and i can really relate to this. My suggestion is don’t wait for the whole group to have a free night, just plan something simple with those who are free. A quick game, walk or workout session once a week even helps keep those friendships alive.

We usually do a meetup on weekends. Sometimes, we also play Badminton on a few weekends

That's cool! You still make time to refresh yourself and hang out with friends.

I guess that's what happens as we get older.

No matter how many video games we play, nothing beats playing in real life with friends. The fun, the teasing, the jokes, and especially that one guy in every group who keeps everyone laughing those moments are priceless. Online games can be entertaining, but they can never fully replace the joy and memories created when friends get together in person.

Completely agree. Waiting for the entire group to be available usually means nothing gets planned. Small meetups with whoever is free are often enough to keep friendships alive over the years.

Adult work life has taken up most of my time, and I hasn't seen my friends in a long time because they are very busy as well :(

At the moment it seems getting together and BBQing or going out on the boat. And if we all decide we don't want to leave the house, we jump online and into Eve Online and blow each other's spaceships up!

Man I wish we could meet up in person but these days everyone's states away from each other. We play group games on Steam and have a video call and drink. It's not the worst.

honestly for me its mostly badminton now, maybe once a week if im lucky. the whole group thing died years ago, half of them moved cities and the other half have kids so good luck coordinating that lol.

what works for me is just keeping it low effort. a 30 min walk with one or two guys, grab tea after, thats it. no big plans, no waiting for everyone. the moment you try to organize a "proper" meetup with the whole crew nothing happens.

i also got back into cycling a bit. solo most days but sometimes one friend tags along on sundays. nothing serious just enough to not feel like a complete shut in.

real life sports hit different than online stuff though, agree with that. but online is still better than nothing when everyone scattered everywhere.

we all ended up scattered across different cities so the local sports stuff died out for us years ago. these days if we do anything its usually just jumping on discord on a saturday night to play some casual co-op game while having a drink. but after staring at tracker dashboards and screens all week, sometimes i just prefer going for a solo bike ride to clear my head. trying to coordinate schedules with guys who have kids and wives is just a logistical nightmare anyway, easier to just keep it simple.
