The way VPN works is the traffic goes through a server. Free vpn have bazillion people surfing through them.
Those companies offering free trials, for example protonVPN, have separate servers for freeloaders with again bazillion people surfing through them.
So you are not gonna get a free and fast vpn.
What you can try to get is a group buy for top VPN for cheap but I doubt the quality and interruptions it may have.

I used StarVPN and Opera VPN a while back and they worked pretty well. Not so sure about now

Sometimes, I use VeePN chrome extension free version. It works well for me. I'm not affiliated with them in any possible way FYI

I recommend Windscribe VPN. I think Windscribe is the best for free VPN.
