What exactly is an "Impression" in Google search console?

Hi I am confused with what is an "impression" in google search console?

Is it the number of times a person searched for that keyword and the website showed up in search result? Or is it something else?

Because I have keywords with about 2000 impression with my website ranking on top 4-5 on Google first page but not getting any clicks.

The number of time your heading comes in google serp are known as impression.
All you did in your case is your did really good Seo but your Title and description isn't good and the top 3 websites are taking the whole clicks.

Impression simply means how many people visited your site.

Impressions is the number of times your website has showed up in any section of Googles search results ie Search, videos, images.

If someone searches for a query and your website is one of the search results, it is counted as an impression. They may or may not click on your SERP result.
