Am trying to set up from wordpress and decided to use gatorhost and godaddy domain.

What exactly am I paying for when wordpress is tying to charge me another 100$ to add my own domain?

Thanks for any help.

Just log in to your cpanel and find wordpress and install it. Its free.

Really the only thing that you should be paying if you are doing a wordpress site.

1. Domain name -- will cost you anywhere from 5 bucks to 15 bucks the first time you order it. Then most providers charge between 9 to 15 bucks for renewal of the domain name.
2. hosting account -- Should cost you anywhere from 3 bucks to 15 bucks a month depending on who you go with. Now you can get wordpress hosting plan for most that would charge between 15 to 30 bucks a month for hosting.

On avg you should pay about 10 bucks a year for domain and for a shared hosting plan around the 5 bucks a month.

Other than that the only other cost would be getting an SSL

Really at this point starting out that is all you should be paying.

Your ONLY costs should be the domain name and the hosting:
- normal prices for a domain hover around $10/year, but you can get offers and coupons which can get you to $1.99/year
- for hosting, you can go as low as $50 per year if you know where to look for
So it all comes down to $60 maximum!

Good luck mate!

Wordpress is essentially a PHP blogging script/Content Management System that is made available via two models under an open source license.

1. Wordpress.org - This is where you'll find the core script. You download it, plop it up on your hostgator account and have your own website. It takes less than a minute to install. You upload it, add the database credentials, run the install and you're done. If you're on Hostgator - you can follow this guide to run that install - http://www.shoutmeloud.com/how-to-install-wordpress-on-hostgator.html

2. Wordpress.com - This is the hosted version. This is the primarily how Automattic - the company that built Wordpress makes money. They offer to host your wordpress site for you which is why the above mentioned charge. You don't need this if you're on Hostgator.

You can buy and domain name from any hosting site that sell domain name....that should not cost you more that $12/yr and hosting package for a year should not cost you more that $50 for a year depending on the plan u are going for...You can even get the hosting plan cheaper if you search well. but a budget of 50$ you should have your domain name and wordpress installed from your cpanel if hosting is paid for. You can check on hostyoufast.com and see if you can find a budget that will suit you. Good lucks to you.
