Hello, I'm taking my step into the world of marketing, and could use a little guidance. I've been a freelance web-designer for the last three years, but up until now I've never worked for a company strictly on advertising campaigns. Recently I was hired to work with a local beauty store on re-creating their website, pretty much from scrap. I used WordPress to create a pretty solid website. After the site was finished, I signed a 6 month contract with the client at $20 / hr. This will give me the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of marketing a business, and bring in money at the same time.

I'm wondering what I should do to bring in more visitors to the website, build the social media presence, and how a small business can best benefit from having online marketing. I've already done the following to the website, or I'm working on it currently.

    • Website for the business front, with blog
    • Links to social media paltforms from site
    • E-mail newsletter (in progress, seeking advice)
    • Print advertising in local media. With website url.
    • Facebook and google local set up.

Any links that would help me establish a small business online would be greatly appreciated.

Also anyone giving away free Facebook likes, I have a seperate page for a global blog that I'm starting.

The main way of getting traffic to a website
    is SEO or PPC

Plenty of information here about both of these methods

First you need to understand keywords
    and how they work

Yep the stuff you've done so far is a good start for online presence, now you just need to promote it.

First identify the keywords you want to target. Everything from the short, highly competitive to the long tail
Make sure there is mention of the things you want to target in prime places on the website itself
Then start SEOing on those keywords. Hit them all, and hit lots of them.

If they have some money to burn throw down some on PPC and see which keywords convert the most, and then you know which ones are the most important
