We are running a local news website in Greece (greek language).

We host them under an nginx combo, its stack is superfast with php8.1 and it also scores 60+ in mobile pagespeed insights tests.
Of course, our website has a great search console report (green urls, sitemap indexed and non-cached etc.)

We are doing manual work when it comes to news, by mixing paragraphs of other websites, into one article at our website. Usually, those articles have more than 1000 words.
Let me explain: lets supposed that we want to write an article about Oscar awards and Will Smith's slap, we google 'Will Smith Slap' in greek and we open the first 10 websites with this article.

We copy one paragraph from eachsite and we paste it in our site, breaking those to smaller paragraphs (one or two sentences each). At the end of the article, we do a rewritten paragraph, so it seems unique. We have seen this method working on other websites.

Moreover, we format our text based on the SEO targeted keyword (i.e Will Smith) and we do add all necessary data (alt tags in images), images in the content, youtube/twitter embeded etc. We follow yoast's suggestions until everything is green and we do also try to provide internal linking to tags.

Is there something else we miss in order to have super ranking articles? Competitors have lower technical results in tests.
We tried following Google trends (realtime support is not provided at Greece) and even if we do so, we are not able to rank our pages high. During our journey, a few urls and topics scored fine (google news), but we are not sure why this happened - as we are doing the same work for other keywords aswell, so I guess it was the timing and the low amount of competition in this.

Any advises welcomed :)

I think you should give a little more time before you conclude on the rankings results

I do aggree when it comes to long term SEO keywords. However, when it comes to instant news - they come and go fast.

I would definetely try to setup some kinf of text spinner at least.

Maybe they have social signals/shares?

We do share at Facebook, yes.
