What Education do you have?

Dropped out of college almost 10 years ago. I was studying business because I figured I would have the most financial success that way, but I realized partway through that it was just not my strong suit. I'm finally preparing to go back and, even though it might not be financially smart, I plan to study art because it's what I'm truly interested in. If I can make a career out of it, that would be great, but at the very least I will continue to try and make profit with IM.

From formal education I came out with an Msc but by far the most useful thing I learned in school was "how to learn by myself", "how to judge information" and "why these qualities are so important". So I have full respect for people who are self educated without degrees and all that jazz.
 
Veterinary Medicine. Going to quit soon as I finish this semester. I realized my interests lies on computers and IM. Fuck this shit, I've just wasted about 2 and 1/2 years of my life for being so indecisive when I started college.
 
student of business psychology ! :) am learning how to manage my time so i can study, go out and do IM , working pretty well, am happy with my progresses

I have a BA in History from Univesity of Liverpool. I did it because I love the subject and it provides you with great analytical and interpretation skills. I am now doing an MSc in Corporate Finance and have found that the essay-writing skills I acquired through my history degree have been a massive help. An abundance of successful individuals are/were history graduates (e.g. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, W. E. B. DuBois, Martha Stewart, Edward Norton, Michael Palin, Marmadukke Hussey, Sascha Baron Cohen, Gordon Brown, David Blunkett, John Prescott, Sir Howard Stringer, Sir Roland Smith...the list goes on).

To quote George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Too true, the system here in Singapore is for kids to learn everything parrot fashion without actually understanding or questioning what they are being taught. As a Result: great grades but kids have very little common sense, no ability to problem solve, think creatively or even for themselves.
personally i dont believe that intelligence can only be measured by an exam certificate, some of the smartest people i have known were considered failures at school!:smileysex

Yeah... I am in the self-taught boat as well. I went to college right after high school and made the dean's list every semester, the only problem was that I had already started working on the internet doing web design. Problem, you ask? There came a point where I had to choose between remaining a full-time employee, or dropping out of school to continue my career as an internet marketer. I think you can figure out the rest, considering I am here with you now! I was sucked in by the freedom, the expression, the complexity, and the challenge of the internet - it sank it's teeth in and never let go.

Now, I am 5 years into my stint as an internet marketer and I LOVE IT! I have had the privilege of working with fantastic people and learning everything from web development, web design, to video editing, to print design, to SEO and even some PPC. Personally, I don't think there is a better way to learn this stuff than by researching the internet, you get all the latest techniques (there is no way you can update a textbook and keep up with the changes Google makes to it's algorithm, lol!) and you also build relationship with great people. Keep on keepin' on!
 
Not quite understanding why this would matter and why the OP even asked the question. Being successful is not because of having a degree. A degree will help place you in a specific job field in which obviously some make more money than others but to have your own business you make mistakes, learn from them and move on. If you don't have the drive to work at a regular job then you probably won't have the drive to run your own business. It is that simple. I have seen a few people say it already here but to be successful you need to always try new things and learn from your mistakes. (hard knocks) To everyone that wants to take a leap to be successful on their own (start your own business) to truly be successful you need to work harder than you would if you were working for someone. Especially until your business has done well for awhile and you can branch out and have truly trained and qualified employees. I am saying this because I have done truly well for myself offline and now starting online. There were days I wanted to cry but you just can't give up. SUCK IT UP AND MOVE ON. If you quit you will never know what you could have done.
 
Didn't get the grades to get into uni lol

I guess I could be classed as an educational failure, considering my only decent qualification is in "film studies". Education is important, the education system isn't.

Taught myself everything I know about psychology and web dev which is the bread and butter of IM.

When I found out I didn't get into uni, I got a bit of cash from the government, used that to fund marketing my web development skills... year later I was earning more than most of the people I know who have uni degrees.

4 years later I'm now full time IMer. Haven't looked back :cool:
 
PhD in Systematic Theology, MDiv (Master's in Divinity), MBA in Finance, BS/BA Finance with Econ minor. The academic world is my comfort zone...no apologies for that. ;-)

I can testify that this is 100% true...SG produces kids who are (generally) above average in maths, but weak in lateral thinking and independent thought...also, very shy and timid in the classroom.

I'd like to think that both formal and informal education are equally valid...no need to think of it as a zero-sum game. I make bank from both.

I am a Bachelor of European Area Studies and a Master of International Cooperation and European Projects :deal:

But I don't need my diplomas in real life, because it is very hard to find a job like that.
