What does "URLs in web index" in Google Webmaster Tools Mean?

in Google Webmaster Tools, my "URLs in web index" number is 4,596.

Does it mean that I have 4,596 page index in Google?

But my site has totally deindex by google.
I can't find my site by search "site:mydomain.com" in google.

Autoblog? a lot of pages to be indexed in google if not....may have triggered something

Isn't Webmaster Tools a few days behind? Perhaps they don't know you've been canned yet. Either that or Google's penalty filter doesn't report to Webmaster Tools.

This guy said:

"urls submitted" is the total number of links that google has detected in sitemap.
"Indexed URLs" is the number of link that are already included in google's index (i.e. can be found in search results). It takes time for Google to index your pages.
