what does thi s"subscribers" mean?..it is a new feature?

what does "subscribers" mean in facebook??....
there is neither "like" button nor "add as friend" option.
It means it is not a page or normal account.
Then what it is???
i am really wondered.

Its adding more people to your status updates without adding them as friends.
