What does linking code do to a crypto wallet?

I have a friend who wants to link my crypto wallet to a specific code he gave me so that he can transfer $$ into my account.
Is it safe for my account?

He said it's a linking code that I should use (I must load my account with $$ to do that)?

Experts please shed some lights into it.

Why tie anything up? No need to complicate things, just send him a transfer address and that's it, I wouldn't recommend doing something like that

Im not an Expert on Crypto, but I guess he is doing some business and has opened a Payment Gateway Account. Don't have the balls to put his own Verification / Linking code to the Gateway, so he is asking you to route the money to your Account - so that he can get the money from you ( IRL? or back via any other payment method).

From a Legal perspective - in case he did something fraudulent, you are kind of a co-worker or middleman, or at least you are f**** up, Let phrase it this way.
Something like "I was not aware of this bla" will not have any value.

If that's the case, what kind of friend Is he? Real life or online?
I would not give him anything.

Most likely, he just wants to confirm his Payment Gateway with your Account.
Keep asking him questions, act like you will do it, and waste his time.

Be careful with that kind of "friend."

Yeah, linking account to another seems to be sketchy.
I was alarmed inside my head but since he's working for my benefit, I didn't say no.

Sounds dodgy as all get up, mate. To receive coin, all you need to do is give him your address, anything beyond that and you are opening yourself to be the victim of theft or fraud, or worse still, you could have your funds stolen and be left on the hook for some crime like money laundering that does carry some pretty hefty punishments.

Governments don't like people that commit crime and they really don't like the people that don't pay taxes.
